If you missed our UN Day Dinner Celebration you can watch the festivities on C-Net! (NOTE: Dinner video begins after intro advertisement for Schlow Library)

Our UN Day Dinner theme centered on climate change, with Dr. Tom Richards, Professor of Agricultural and Biological Engineering and the Director of the Penn State Institutes for Energy and the Environment as our keynote speaker. His address "The Power of Renewable Natural Gas to Combat Climate Change and Help Save the Planet" spoke to the urgency of the climate crisis and outlined one innovative program to mitigate carbon dioxide emissions.

You can watch the full program or, if you like, fast forward to the Roll Call of Nations who attended the dinner at time mark 27:00. The keynote speech begins at time mark 33:00.

Small gifts make an enormous difference

Let me tell you about the gift from friends of UNA-CC that continues to give.

Every year UNA Center County and its Council of Organizations selects a "Make a Difference" project related to the UN Day Dinner theme. In 2012 our theme was empowering women (see more below).

That year we collected over $2000 in donations for Kiva, an organization that provides microloans to women around the world who are beginning businesses to support their families.

One of the unique features of Kiva is that as loans are repaid they are then repurposed and given to other women entrepreneurs.

As of 2019, when we received our annual update, those donations to UNA-CC and Kiva have provided $14,650 in loans to women in 60 countries!

UNA would, once again, like to thank everyone who contributed! Your gift continues to make a difference in the lives of women around the world.

Read the article in about that year's UN Day Celebration.
