  • January 16 Centre County United Nations Association General Meeting and Wine and Cheese Social.   Foxdale Village Auditorium, 500 Marylyn Ave, State College, PA
    Carmen Frost was the keynote speaker.  Her presentation was entitled "Uruguay: a Cultural Journey".

  • April 17, 2019 -- Centre County United Nations Association General Meeting and Wine and Cheese Spring Social.Dr. Shoba Sivaprasad Wadhia was the keynote speaker.  Her presentation is entitled  "Banned: Immigration Enforcement in the Time of Trump".

 

2018

  • October 28.  United Nations Day Celebration Dinner,  Ramada Inn and Conference Center
    Keynote speaker: Dr. Hari Osofsky, Dean Penn State Law School and School of International Affairs.  "Litigating Climate Change: The Role of Courts Around the World in Shaping Our Future".

 


2016

 

  • March 28.  UNA Film Series.   Schlow Center Region Library.  Film:  Homeland: Four Portraits of Native Americans.

    Filmed against some of Americas most spectacular backdrops, from Alaska to Maine and Montana to New Mexico, "Homeland: Four Portraits of Native Action" profiles the against-all-odds struggles of Native American leaders who are taking on powerful energy companies and government agencies to protect the environment for all Americans. A moving tribute to the power of grassroots organizing, Homeland is also a call-to-action against the current dismantling of thirty years of environmental laws.

  • October 25.  UN Day Dinner Celebration. Keynote speaker: Ken Payumo, Chief of the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations Support Section discusses his experience at the Bor refugee camp.  

  • April 29.  Spring Wine and Cheese Social .  Guest speaker:  Dr. Arthur Goldschmidt "How Can the United Nations Promote Peace in the Middle East?"

2014

  • January 28.  "Reconciliation" by Dr. Charles Dumas. A play commissioned by The William Joiner Institute for the Study of War and Social Consequences and first presented at UMASS Boston for the annual Writers Workshop. Reconciliation is part of a continuing artistic collaboration addressing issues associated with the war in Iraq.

  • October 26.  UN Day Dinner Celebration.  Keynote Speaker.  Meg Gardenier, Director of Arigatou International.  "Safe Schools for All"

  • September 18.  Fall 2014 Social -- our annual wine and cheese social with special guest speaker, Dr. Grace Hampton

  • May 1.  Spring Wine and Cheese Social -- Guest speaker.  Dr. Jill Jensen "Peace, Justice, and Solidarity: Affirming Workers’ Rights at the United Nations."

  • April 2.  Special Event: "From Indian Boarding School to State College Area School District: A Dialogue with Three Generations of the Redwing Family."   Guest Speakers: Dean, Ron, and Erin Redwing.  Join 3 generations of the Redwing family, members of the Oglala Sioux tribe, as they discuss the attitudes and environment that they each encountered as multiracial high school students and how those attitudes have evolved over time.

 

2013

  • April 30.  Spring Wine and Cheese Social Social Guest Speaker: Dr. Felicia Wilkins Turner. "American Indian Education: Past, Present and Future"

  • September 19.  Fall Wine and Cheese Social  Guest Speakers: Dr. Le Ann De Reus and Arianna De Reus   "Bridging Cultures, Fostering Futures, Restoring Hope through Research and Service in Central Africa."

  • October 20.  UN Day Dinner Celebration. Guest Speaker: Dr. Mark Brennan, Penn State UNESCO Chair in Rural Community, Leadership, and Youth Development.  "Youth Leadership in Communities Decimated by Disease and Poverty:
    Focus on Zambia."

  • October 21. UN Day Dinner.  Keynote Speaker:  Gillian Sorrensen, Senior Advisor, The United Nations Foundatio. "Empowering Women in a Changing World" 2012  Make A Difference Project: Kiva.  See our blog post about this project.

  • Sept 12.  Wine and Cheese Social.   Guest Speaker Dr. Ann Tickamyer "Gendered Lives and Livelihood: Women's Empowerment in Appalachia and Indonesia"

  • August 9.  International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples.  Broadcast of UN ECOSOC activities.  Pattee Library. 

  • June 4. UNA Film Series.  "Hot Politics." A Free film and discussion on the science and politics of global warming. Moderated by  Dr. Don Brown,   Associate Professor of Environmental Ethics, Science, and Law, Penn State.   If you missed our screening  watch online at  film's PBS website.

     The 2011 Make a Difference project supported programs to supply clean water to communities in need around the world
