Guest Speaker: Dr. Jill Jensen, Visiting Assistant Professor. School of Labor and Employment Relations, Penn State University. Dr. Jensen serves as Assistant Director of the Center for Global Workers' Rights. She holds a Ph.D. in U.S. History with expertise in the study of comparative labor law and social policy, human rights, and global labor markets. She had taught courses on labor history, workers and human rights, and international labor movements, all of which investigate employment relations and their surrounding economic, social, and cultural dynamics. Her academic work analyzes the history of the International Labor Organization (ILO), an agency of the United Nations, and its attempts to formulate and monitor international labor standards. Her talk will focus on a statement on workers’ rights offered by the ILO for the postwar world, called the Declaration of Philadelphia. The Declaration was a marriage, of sorts, of the League of Nations tradition to the new U.S.-led formulas forecast for the United Nations itself and still stands as the centerpiece of the ILO’s Constitution. Dr. Jensen will then discuss the “global spirit” of this declaration today RSVPPlease RSVP by April 25th to Bob Lumley-Sapanski at rxl4@psu.edu Printable flyer available at the bottom of the page.
